Thesis Paper: m-Commerce for Microfinance in CARD-NGO

Action Consultancy:

Pilot Testing of m-Commerce Applications in Microfinance Institutions
Loan Collection and Disbursement in CARD-NGO

Abstract

This management research report creates actual experience of mobile commerce applications in microfinance through a pilot.

From the lessons of the pilot, the paper explores ways be which m-commerce interventions may benefit microfinance towards achieving MFI Objectives.

The paper recommends a strategy for m-commerce intervention in CARD-NGO and for MFIs at large. Lastly, the paper summarizes the findings of the pilot and proposes ways by which m-commerce service providers could better enable clients in the microfinance sector.

ka edong,

dami mo ng blog hehehe.

got curious with your thesis. would you believe we had been marketing the same idea to NGO's and utility companies since 2003? prior to gcash we are offering the encashment network (for remittance) to act as collecting agents. it was basically the same engine for donation (many people remitting to one organization). and when gcash came we added it as an option since as a partner you dont have the 10k limit. but then i guess the timing was not right as it seems the market wasn't ready at that time.

hige, balitaan!

Hi nocs!

honga, dami kong ginawang blog. pero dalawa lang ang main blogs ko. Technobiography will be my tech/personal blog. MobileTulay will be my academic/research/consultancy blog.

Timing is the best friend of a good idea. Siguro (sana) ito na ang tamang panahon para mai-sulong ang (sandali, starting to sound like an aktibista)
...mai-sulong ang iyong mga ideya.

Even today, nocs, mahirap i-"benta" ang ideya ng g-cash. Yun ang isa sa mga natutunan namin sa study. 'Di pa mulat ang mga tao. pero 'ika nga, "getting there, getting there." Let's go make it a bit faster, shall we?

bro, send-an kita e-mail. let's have some coffee (or beer?) some time.

mabu-hey!

Hi Ed,

I attended your presentation of M-Commerce at AIM. To be honest, we are very much interested in utilizing the technology/system for our operations. In fact, we've been thinking of it since last year but because of other priorities, it was temporarily shelved. But your initiative awaken our desire (not lustful one, huh) to pursue it once again. I will be happy to share with you our experience as we implement it in the near future. I hope you can share with me, too, your other model(s) of it and the how's of doing it.

Many Thanks pare.

Hi Aldy,

Thanks for coming! I'm glad you are interested in this. It's good to know that the forum has made some ripples.

Yes, I would like to hear about your experience. It's also my pleasure [ not lustful either ;-) ] to share my experiences.

Let's discuss. Rizaldy Duque, right?

Mabuhay!

I have informally proposed the integration of mobile banking technology to collect receivables for this lpg refiller, but encountered barriers. Most of the lpg refiller's customers are small retailers (e.g. sari sari store). One of the biggest problems is inadequate segregation of duties between the sales rep and the receivables collector as they are one and the same.

I proposed the application of mobile technology to segregate cash collections from sales. But as you found out, lack of insfrastructure stood in the way of full implementation, especially operations in far flung barrios.

Nonetheless, there is great potential for this application and eagerly anticipating possible applications.

Perhaps when Gmoney has better saturations the barriers to the implementation of this model will make it viable.
